Go back to the old system where if you turned the age during the season then thats the one you play. If you too good for that then play up.

And if it is too difficult for parents to follow then you gotta wonder how they get out the door in the morning.
My December U10 has to tryout for U11 Rep (only option after AAA in my center). He looked like a midget at tryouts they were never going to pick him, and after a year at HL he's going to be so far behind and then they take the Jan/Feb U10's so they can have some returning players next season.
Nothing wrong with playing house league. I've seen better coaches at the HL level than rep. If you combine HL with Select or private lessons, you won't lose any ground.

We play HL and Select, are on the ice 80+ times (50 games / 30 practices) which is pretty much what AA and BB team get each year.

While some coaches still look at size, it's still a game of skating and skill.
If you are playing HL.... it isn't because your kid is small. Open your eyes.
He's in the 3rd tier of hockey. AAA (Didn't even go to tryouts), Rep (D?), and then HL. But He skates with his cousins who have the option to play U10 A and he's noticeably better then them right now. Just sucks he is stuck in HL because of border rules and no U10 option (forced into U11).

We get 1 game a week and a practice every other week in HL October to March.

Rep starts in September, runs till Mid April, 2 practices a week, dryland weekly, priority access to powerskating sessions, and 1-2 games a week. There's no chance my kid will keep up, better coaching or not.
So look at some private options to be on the ice once or twice a week and start your own dryland training. Come spring time, play in a spring league.

There's other ways to get to your 10,000 hours.
Ya, the dudes just going to suddenly be a dryland training professional and fork out $5k for private training and drive for hours to attend it just so his kid can have an equal experience to his (probably shitty) Rep team, but do it all without friends of community. Such a Toronto/rich view. He just wants his kid to have a fun enriched hockey experience and that doesn't exist to him because he's born in December and lives in rural OMHA land somewhere given no U10 or Select options. I don't want open borders but this is a prime example of where they should 100% be more flexible for those rural kids to at least be eligible to tryout for ANY AA/A/BB/B/C tier teams. Let the really strong kids from that center leave to AA/A - You can guarantee they are bitching being forced into that center as well - and it would open the door for his little December baby to play in a more enriched hockey program.

You can watch some videos and look at dryland plans on line and mimic those, doesn't cost a thing.

Then you can go to different clinics which are $50-$60 a session.

You literally can spend the same amount as you would on rep to be on the ice and get training without losing a year. You won't get in as many games but at this age, it's the practice that is most important.

If he's in a D center there probably are not even any programs offered nearby, let alone ice time to even rent for himself. He isn't describing a city player experience where those options are real and exist. His entire hockey organization U5 through U21 is probably 13 total teams and like 150 kids. There is no alternative team or experience for him, and he for sure won't make it in the future either. He's actually lucky there is even a HL program offered, some centers only run rep and everyone else is told no hockey for you. It's game over for his little December Baby, pick a new sport. These centers don't even have extra rep fees, so there is no extra money to spend that was saved. Seriously go check some rural OMHA websites, they don't even charge for tryouts because they only have 22 kids total in their mixed U10-U11 anyway.

Your so full of crap, every rep team has additional fees and they all charge for tryouts it's the easiest money grab for every organization. Also there is no rep centers with under 200 players, those are Local League centers and they send their best kids to play in the neighbor A centers where these is 100% extra tryout fees and rep fees.

These lies are what is screwing up minor hockey, people spreading them and trying to influence HC/OHF. You have no idea what you are talking about and that's why you think nobody in OHF is smart or listening to you. Smarten up.

Yo man, don’t you know it’s all a big scam? They’re gonna tell you your kid is the best. They’ll tell you whatever you wanna hear you keep forking out the money.
