There are fantastic coaches, skills development coaches that should be the ones doing the teaching of HP1. Having a fat lesb.ian run a course is a joke and 85% of the material is liberal scenarios about what if a kid identifies as a palm tree, how should you address this scenario? instead of, if a kid is constantly losing the puck on his back hand how do we fix that skill?

Hockey canada is a joke run by virtue signally hypocrites that absorb money away from development. hockey usa is miles ahead now

Most coaches are going unchecked. Some fkn plug from his Jr days trying to relive his glory days. Thinks he can get off his bar stool and go coach a minor kids team because he popped 25 in beer league 20 years ago. Stupid parents and kids think that's the pinnacle, "where did he play". It's friends promoting friends from the board. Promoting friends who are unqualified coaches. Let's be honest they dont really do the online training. Skip through that mess and joke. Zero accountibility through all of minor hockey. Never follow the rules. Have to engage friends in high places to get them off the hook. Liars. Drunks. People like this is why good coaches and people are leaving. Because of the scared fktards who need control and cant concede when theyre not qualified, skilled enough, smart enough or sober enough to let someone else coach. Good coaches dont want to play this bs game. Secondly, good coaches have to put up with cancerous parents who lie, gossip, spread rumours, criticize, false report, and go after good coaches. In most cases coaches are volunteers. Who wants to sign up for that bs for free? Usually the guys above who want control or the guy who desparately needs to drag his kid along cause he cant make it on his own. And lastly when good coaches get accused of something, sides form, lies start and governing bodies, and boards do nothing but sweep it under the rug. No accountibility in minor hockey. Zero. They might pay attention if ya use some unflattering slang about gender or colour. Otherwise, useless. The whole system is a free for all. Survival of the fitess and the one that loves the taste of.......in his mouth

Unfortunately, there are not an abundance of coaches and those who leave far out number the ones that are coming on board. "You get what you get" is pretty much the coaching landscape these days. Gone are the days where there are multiple coaches applying for positions and associations have their pick up the litter.

It's really simple why coaches are leaving, it's all the B.S. you have to put up with, like you explained above. And the same thing is happening with refs too. More leaving than coming in, so you are getting new and sub par reffing.

We need to simplify the system for coaches. Get back to the simple Coach, Asst Coach, Manager, Trainer scenerio. Get 4 volunteers, each volunteer knows there role and execute against that role. Parents need to be educated on what team will provide .. schedule, budget, 1-2 games/week, 1-2 practices/week, tournaments. The team is not about private skills sessions or providing player x with more power play time.
Secondly, if we simplify, we will get costs down for all kids. Remove the BS in team budgets, paid coaches, swag no one wants, expensive exhibition games, training camps at rinks that charge $400/hr.
Finally, take time out as well. Teams show up 30 minutes before the game, 25 mins before a practice .. why is it one hour? Team meetings with parents are at practices with Asst Coach running the practice.
Practice sheets shared online, 24 hours before practice. Players be prepared.

All you have to do is read a chat board like this with all the a-hole obnoxious parents out there, and is it any wonder coaches can't be bothered to develop your precious little perfect angle children anymore who are all destined for the NHL if it wasn't for the failings of the coach. This chat board alone is a perfect example of how toxic the parents are they ruin minor hockey. Some dumb ass above is trying to blame it on a fat les.bian running a seminar. Maybe it's the parent whose mind is so ignorant to only see someone as a fat les.bian that is the problem, not the simple little course itself.

Don't get me wrong there are some great hockey families out there and that's what makes this so fun. But for every 9 great families you have that one bad apple that ruins it and makes it not worth it for the coach to put up with.

Also don't get me wrong I love this drama lol. So don't ever stop being the obnoxious a-holes that you are. Maybe just try to have some self awareness about who the real problem is lol.

Kick out problem parents

Hold coaches accountable by opening up closed centres

Problem solved

Earn people's respect and kick out the a-holes. If you're a good coach you won't be afraid of this as people will want to be part of what you offer. If you hide behind the closed centre wall-you have something to hide or need protection. simple

Easier said than done, unfortunately.

It's tough kicking out parents as there are declining numbers across the board, you can't make parent cuts like you used to as you have to pick the best players to make the best team or you'll have more parent issues.

There are less and less people volunteering to coach and opening up closed centres will weaken both the player and coach pool, meaning even less people to choose from.

The system is broken across the board.

It will never happen but the best way to fix minor sports is to not allow spectators. No more coaching from the stands, kids will pay more attention and coaches won't have to look over their should at every practice and game.
