I would assume there would be more than that going on in the background, maybe issues in prior year….because that’s going to mess up the kids too which is what you’d really want to avoid
Sounds like a better option came along. There is no loyalty in hockey. Remember that.
What organization are we talking about here?
Are we sure he didn’t back out?
Orgs don't fire a coach midseason because of a loosing slump. And it's rare for a coach to walk away mid season, particularly if they want to continue coaching. Things like this are almost always due to parent discourse, and coaches will ride it out and make parent cuts the following season. But in some cases, cancerous parents are able to drum up enough turmoil and gain support from the bleachers, that the org will let the coach go. In other words, the coach won't tap out...but he's happy to walk away when the org says its time.
Tell that to the U14 coaches who got fired during the season last year

It does happen but usually not pre-season based on results. Usually because of underlying disciplinary reasons or hand caught in the cookie jar. If you give a coach a development goal and dump them after 1 months worth of practices then your organization sucks. Even NHL coaches get a season unless they do something stupid, a la Babcock
