Coaches leaving game in droves
Coaches leaving game in droves
Parents, endless qualifications, inherent risk of unfound complaints. Good people and coaches saying good bye to hockey. I point the finger at hockey Canada for the most part.
Re: Coaches leaving game in droves
Boards need to be accountable. When you pick your friends to coach teams based on relationships, and those coaches pick their teams based on the same, theres bound to be issues. Ethical decisions drive respect. Backdoor deals drive gossip and disrespect and as a result coaches are treated the way they’re brought in. If you want to earn respect, respect your team and the parents and be fair. Don’t be back room gossiping, playing favourites, and cutting kids short. Chances are that’s why coaches are leaving, because they’re being sketchy and people are calling it.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 9:43 am Parents, endless qualifications, inherent risk of unfound complaints. Perhaps some....my point was that the risk of taking a coaching position as well as the bs are making the good ethical coaches leave. Then what are you left with? Garbage.
Re: Coaches leaving game in droves
There are not many good coaches left. I notice that the top end skills coaches never want to coach or do so as an assistant. Being an HC is very difficult and a thankless job that pays peanuts

Coaches who are doing the right thing generally aren’t the target of crazy bs behaviour. A good coach will be protected by a team that respects them.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 10:10 am Perhaps some....my point was that the risk of taking a coaching position as well as the bs are making the good ethical coaches leave. Coaches are they only people held accountable by leagues and Hockey Canada. They can be suspended for any and every rule's violation. A skill coach can yell and scream at his paying customers with no consequences but if a team coach does the same thing, he is suspended or removed.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 9:43 am Parents, endless qualifications, inherent risk of unfound complaints. Re: Coaches leaving game in droves
In Canada hockey coaches have to be certified to coach at ahigh level but to on a league executive or a association BOD all you have to do is volunteer.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2024 9:43 am Parents, endless qualifications, inherent risk of unfound complaints. Re: Coaches leaving game in droves
I ended up getting a coach and his assistant removed and banned from coaching in the GTHL, Jewish guys who were awful coaches and stealing budget money from the team. Terrible coaching experience for the players involved. Something had to be done and thankfully in this situation the league did the right thing.
