Talk to me about 'points'
Talk to me about 'points'
It seems like how many points someone's kid got or didn't get in a game has become an obsession. It's very easy now to go to a tournament page and look up 9 year old Bobby's stats or lack there of...does anyone find this weird? I mean it doesn't work that way with grades that's for sure. I remember people on my kids team being mad that someone got their number of goals wrong...as if so many people are looking up youth hockeys stats? Even here i see people say things like, oh so and so's kid got no points.
I honestly think youth hockey is being ruined by technology. It was better before the internet came along.

With all the technology we have, I'm a little sadz that there isn't "more" availability for stats.

For what u16? It’s the only age that matters for anything.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 8:54 am With all the technology we have, I'm a little sadz that there isn't "more" availability for stats.

Re: Talk to me about 'points'
We have heard of fathers going to tournament offices to get their sons points corrected. It's ridiculous, In Spring/Summer tournaments you are lucky if they spell your name right, let alone get the stats right.
Re: Talk to me about 'points'
I realize points might matter more in high school...but when the kids are under 10? come on.
I am kind of astounded by how important they have become...it's no longer about a great play, it's oh johnny had 13 points!!
Oh and if it wasnt caught on video and put on instagram, it never happened. WTF has happened to hockey??
Also it's very easy to get a bunch of points in a less competitive game where it doesn't matter. How do people not see right through this???

Re: Talk to me about 'points'
I know a lot of tournaments they don't track points after there is a +5 Goal differential - which if you are going to track the points to begin with, you are really screwing a bunch of kids over.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:22 am We have heard of fathers going to tournament offices to get their sons points corrected. I say, if you are going to do it, do it right. If you can't do it, then don't do it at all.
Not going to lie, when I join a tournament with my team, the first thing I do is go into the roster page and see what my opponents best players are.
Re: Talk to me about 'points'
and that is the problem. We had a kid who got the most 'points' in a tournament once and everyone was like, ooh who is this? Turns out he isn't anything great and just racked up a bunch of points against some easy teams.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 10:07 amI know a lot of tournaments they don't track points after there is a +5 Goal differential - which if you are going to track the points to begin with, you are really screwing a bunch of kids over.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:22 am We have heard of fathers going to tournament offices to get their sons points corrected. Has hockey become basketball? it used to be about goals and assists...now it's just points.
Re: Talk to me about 'points'
Saw this first hand at a House League Select tournament, yes HOUSE LEAGUE SELECT............a father emailed the Tournament Director to get his kid's stats corrected. Everyone knows who scored the goals and no one is looking up house league select stats.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:22 am We have heard of fathers going to tournament offices to get their sons points corrected. The people running these tournaments are volunteers and they are trying their best. We noticed a few goals were credited to goalies
