Agree on kids should take a break, play other sports. The reality is if other kids on team on ice multiple hours everyday while my kid not, he will behind after summer. How can he get ice time? Happen in recent games.

He doesn't need Ice time, is he not on a fall team next year? He has a spot. within a couple weeks he will be fully caught up.

If your kid would get benched that easy, you are in the wrong spot. You shouldn't be at the level you have him at. that lunacy that any team would bench kids in the first month of the season, and if your kid is so far behind that they aren't caught up in a month, take him to AA or A.

No he won't. He will get into mid season form in a month.

The summer burnouts will start feeling the effects and as season goes on might be even worse off. Or at best keeping pace while giving up any notion of fun.

2015 parent here. Had the same concerns when my kid took 6 weeks off last summer and most were skating. Started back up with a few camps in mid-August and he was way more refreshed and excited to go when official practices started. The break made him miss hockey and he lives for the game. Although, I did have a shooting pad and he likely shot 100-200 pucks per day. However, that was his choice.

It depends, I did see kids doing 10 weeks morning and afternoon camps had significant improvements last year.
