Wood was facing one charge of sexual assault related to an alleged incident on May 11. He was charged by the Barrie Police Service on May 20, and while he was originally expected in court on June 30, that date was put over until early September.

The charge against Wood wasn’t proven in court.

The Barrie Police Service declined to comment following news of Wood’s death.

Wood was the owner of the Purple Cobras youth hockey association in Barrie, which suspend operations after the allegation against Wood came to light.

At the time, the league overseeing the Purple Cobras, the Klevr Super League, said it would reinstate the association’s membership once the team was transferred or sold to a party outside of Wood’s family.

Wood also spent time with the Bradford Bulls, the Tottenham Steam, the governing body of a slo-pitch league, and as recently as last season, he provided a billet home for players with the Barrie Colts OHL team.

In his suicide note he admitted he was guilty and there were more victims. The world got rid of an animal.

Two things can be true at the same time. His poor family will be in tough and it’s ok to feel bad for them. Also he was a horrible human being and took the cowards way out and the world is much better without him.

You are right on both counts. He was a coward who hurt his family even more by ending his own life. A selfish, monstrous human being. Poor kids.

Your Barrie police friend should lose his job for professional misconduct.
