Gthl vs Omha

Why is the gthl always so much stronger? Way less participants in the city where most demographics don’t even play or afford hockey. Overall less population then omha as well but top omha teams can only compete with mid to bottom gthl at all levels. Few years back our AA West team top 4 team in the west was able to beat 4 AAA omha teams.
Is the development in the gthl just that much better or are European imagrants just that much better at hockey compared to Canadians.

Europeans have much better coaching and play style not to mention just way more athletic genes which we see in other sports. So yes places like Toronto Vaughan Mississauga will have way better athletes and coaches to choose from.

The G isn't better. Only the top few teams in each loop are good. The bottom teams are really bad. In the OMHA, competition is closer.

Then why they leave OMHA?
1. Coaching and development
2. Better exposure
3. Prior to this year, freedom of movement. Now with open borders you’ll see less players from the OMHA cross over to the G. Instead many centres are building “super teams” and are able to do so without the $12k per season price tag.

Kids in OMHA zones leave cause the level of competition and development is higher in the G. With open borders the G will get even stronger

Not one OMHA team is ranked in the top 3 in any age group. OMHA is AA.

Before open boarder, parents only have one choice if play OMHA, it is risky if the team is not good and you stuck there or not play. If put kids in G before U10 basically you have 12 teams to choose from
