OHL Continues Dual Anthems Despite Trade War Tensions and NHL Booing
Is the OHL’s anthem policy tone-deaf amidst rising international tensions? Requiring both anthems at cross-border games seems to disregard the current political climate and the fan reactions we’re seeing in other leagues. Are we prioritizing formality over the potential for uncomfortable or even hostile situations in the stands? What message are we sending to our young players and fans by enforcing this policy? Could this lead to more incidents similar to those in the NHL and NBA? What alternative approaches could the OHL consider? Is it time to re-evaluate the role of national anthems in junior hockey? I predict this policy will not last the season. Let’s discuss the potential consequences and the best path forward for the OHL.
