What's the point of your first sentence? The truth can be said for any league. If it makes you sleep better at night hating, have at it. Enjoy your Canlan tournaments. Not one person said this tournament or being selected was the end all be all. You just have conversations with yourself and assume that's what we believe. Truth is, we don't think that.
It just gets tiresome seeing every tournament or 'invitation' thing make itself out to be the most selective super elite experience ever....how is it that every year there is something new that one must be a part of or they are irrelevant? Let's get to middle school first, thanks. and the point of my first sentence is if you have 10 or 11 year old kid and they aren't any better than anyone else. Stay humble
This comment is most likely coming from a parent who’s kid is on a bottom team and should be playing at a lower level. A larger portion of the kids who are young and really good will continue to be good. Yes there are kids who come up out of the blue to develop and be better but good kids usually remain good.
Staying humble is one thing, having an appreciation for top level players in your league is what we should be doing more of.
I don't think a parent of a kid on a bottom team would bother coming to a forum like this. The fact of the matter is that not all of the top kids end up at the same tournaments, showcases, etc. Many of the parents who end up at these things have FOMO, are desperate that their kid will fall off the radar or won't continue to be good, are invited based on political reasons, have money and pay people off, or scored a high amount of points at a tournament based on a lucky performance or line they ended up on (the Brick or some other tournament this past year). Not everyone at age 10/11 is on the same track. It's possible to be great at hockey and also do other things outside of hockey particularly in the summer. It's clear that many parents live through their kids and think of paying money to pay something they were invited to is a huge sign of their parental success.
