Guest wrote: Mon Dec 30, 2024 1:20 pm Same parents on here shocked at the loss probably fought tooth and nail against HC implementing half ice hockey a few years ago for younger kids. In European countries and the US they play modified ice until after U12 or later. Many countries introduce contact BEFORE they move to full ice. Kids touch the puck way more, move in smaller areas, learn the contact game, and goalies get way more shots. Watch a u11 G game from a development standpoint, it’s a joke. Half the kids might touch the puck 3x in a whole game and the goalies stand there for an hour making a few saves. Paid coaches and parents screaming, benches shortened to win a game for standings that mean nothing. Sure kids love to win but they’ll keep score on the shinny rink and in a game whether they have the fancy bags and jerseys and scoreboards or not. There is no such thing as an elite hockey player under the age of 15 but our system funnels children way too early to determine who the truly talented ones are. Kids going to specialty schools and playing AAA at the age of 8… it’s a joke fuelled by an entire economy of paid coaches and parent dreams. We have it all wrong.
Some solid points even though I don’t agree with everything. Yes, assuming a kid is elite before 14-15 is ridiculous. Kids develop at a different pace. Some kids more advanced now will continue while many will be at the level as the majority by 15. Once kids are teens the parents have very little say and the kids progression will fully be driven by self drive. Another joke is all the emphasis on the Brick. Parents think if you are in the Brick you are going far while others who are not think their kid has no talent.
Nothing is "fully driven by self drive"! What happens is the parents opinion becomes less and outside opinions become valued higher (like a coach). The drive to practice hard everyday every shift comes from an athlete having some success and wanting more, loving the sport. The issue becomes coaches that shorten benches and favour more mature kids....they have single handedly killed 99% of the athletes drive and love for the game when this happens, then they quit. It is crazy how this is allowed!
The Brick isn’t everything, it is the only thing that matters if you are U10.

If USA loses today, is it time to re-think going the NCAA route? They only play 34 game a season!! I mean USA hockey should be way way way ahead of the rest of the world in development too since they didnt shut down hockey for 2 full seasons in 2020 and 2021???!
BTW, when you only play 34 games of D1, is the the other 7 months of going around orange pylons make you better? US hockey model is not as great as people think.

Hockey Canada needs to be scrapped. Complete failure at all levels. USA is the new king.

The roster selection this year had a lot of snubs. Not sure how Misa, Yakemchuck and Parekh were left out. USA was much quicker and Canada just couldn’t keep up.

Too many little darlings with the cute skill sessions. Players from mount bridges, Tony Creek and Toronto. Where are the Ukrainian boys from the prairies? Weak.

This team is playing way below what they can and the coach is responsible for that. The biggest problem by far is their passing is awful. They can barely put two passes together. I honestly have seen u11 teams pass better than this shit. Their breakout is brutal, the defence can't make the outlet pass and forget a clean secondary pass.
Passes in the feet, behind, passing like a hand grenades to the wrong person happen every time canada touches the puck. It is brutal. I dare anyone to count how many sussessful passes vs attempts were made in the Germany game. It was unwatchable.

They don't look like a team at all. Passing is the first thing I notice when a team is playing at individuals not as a team. If they care about their teammates they wouldn't be giving such shitty passes. Although it takes two to pass and the receiving has been garbage also.

I don't know who is to blame but I haven't seen a team canada team ever pass this bad.

The same US team that got spanked by lowly ole Finland? Or grossly outshot by Canada if it were not for 20 mins in PP time the US received too?

Try harder.

PS: US will finish last in the 4 Nations Cup too, its an easy money bet there. Please get off your high horse kid.
